Guided Uphill Ski Tours in Steamboat Springs

Private Uphill Ski Tour

Curious about uphill and backcountry ski touring in Steamboat Springs? Looking to explore new areas away from the ski resort? In need of instruction to become more proficient with your ski touring gear?

Our private ski tours are perfect for fitness minded skiers looking for an introductory to intermediate ski experience right from downtown. Consider taking our guided ski tour before you attempt uphill skiing at the resort or going into the backcountry with more experienced skiers! Bring your own touring gear or we can fit you into appropriate uphill touring gear from Hagan, including boots, skis, skins, helmet, and poles, then we provide instruction on how it all works to ‘skin’ up a snowy slope.

Your guide navigate across a safe and scenic route of 2 miles with 500 feet of vertical ascent and gentle inclines. In addition to plenty of photo opportunities in the beautiful landscape above town, you can expect pointers on how to efficiently ski tour, how to operate your gear, and knowledge of the surrounding natural environment. After climbing you will make a gentle descent back to the start.

Guided Ski Tour: $199/1 person (rental gear included if needed)

Come Prepared

For all rentals and guided experiences we will provide the latest weather and trail conditions before you head out, so you can prepare accordingly. Participants should be comfortable with moderate to hard exertion levels and expect wintery weather conditions. Steamboat’s high altitude of 7000 feet combined with rapidly changing weather conditions adds additional challenge to this activity. If we deem conditions too adverse we will do our best to find an alternate day/time, alternate activity, or credit you towards a future outing.

Here is our suggested checklist of gear to stay comfortable:

  • Cold weather appropriate clothing such as synthetic or wool wicking base layers along with wind/snow blocking shell. And extra base-layer and mid-layer can be is great for changing after a sweaty uphill.
  • Small backpack or fanny pack to carry essentials and shed your clothing layers if you get warm
  • Warm gloves (Having a backup pair of gloves is helpful)
  • Sunglasses
  • Energy snacks & water
  • Drink plenty of water and have a meal well before your ride or ski
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
